SAFE Stichting Animal Friends Europe

About a year ago I met this man. His name is Aloysius Maes. We met during protests of the Anti Vivisection Coalition. Aloysius is a very friendly and passionate man who works for a dog shelter in Spain, near Valencia for the AAF (Animal Aid Foundation). They completely fund themselves off donations made by other animal friends. This means no government or mayor company supports them. All the people who work at the shelter are volunteers. A few weeks ago Wies (as his friends call him) posted a message on his facebook that they are running out of money rapidly and that they are desperate to receive any money they can get for dogfood, vet costs, and medication for their dogs. All the dogs are rescued from the street or breeders who’s only purpose it was to turn them into aggressive fighting bulls. Our second rescue from beagles who have lived their entire lives inside a research laboratory. These beagles have known nothing except the confines of metal cages. They have known no soft human touch, no warm bed, no companionship, no love. They have never been outside or sniffed a tree or grass. 

 Finally, after years of being poked and prodded, these beagles are FREE! ARME got the call that a facility was willing to release them to us after they had been used in several tests. We picked them up on June 8th and now they are all in loving foster homes, and one has already been adopted. (Click here too see the video).

This is why I joined the ADC (anti dierproeven coalitie aka Anti Animal Testing Coalition in my country. Animals are not to test on. Especially not in our well advanced times.

Animal Liberation

That demo today was completely ridiculous. I am very disappointed now. First of all because I was told there were going to be 500 or more people. But there were only 60 or something. And the people that were there were such pretentious little fucks, you wouldn’t believe. They were all these 18 to 24 year olds in punky-crusty clothes that thought they were the hottest shit because they were different and vegan and smoking pot and getting drunk and being anarchists because they had dreads and weird piercings. The idea and thought behind the protest was completely overshadowed by their stupidity. They brought some wagon with speakers and they played hardcore punk music really loudly while creating some kind of moshpit on the field we gathered on. Then we moved down town to show our faces there and have our message heard…but it was so aggressive and silly because they kept repeating the same stuff over and over again, shouting into the microphone, creating a really bad atmosphere. There was no interaction with the audience whatsoever. The guy who did the talking had a thick accent and you could barely understand what he said because the mic was tuned wrongly. So basically people were just blasted away by a group of angry punks screaming “ANIMAL LIBERATION!” over and over again. It was just a lot of showing off and very little to none informing people what matter we were protesting for. What we need to convert people to change their lifestyle and become veg is information and debate. And there was none of that going on today. 

Not everything was bad though. I met a girl, Rose, who lives in my city. She’s a raw vegan and she said she wants to organize vegan cookings and actions against the meat industry with some other people I also spoke to today. People who weren’t getting high, being being show offs. So that’s the up-side and that’s why I’m glad I was there.
